I spent alot of my youth flying kites. There was a hill behind us that we called Kite Hill and
across from it was the other hill and we sometimes would see who could get theirs the farthest and past that hill to where you could barely even see it. Of course most of the time we never got it reeled back in... Fun Times!

Back in the early '70s when my son was a little boy, we used to fly kites also… We lived in Phoenix and we were not in any flight path… We let one of the kites go to its full string length and the kit would not climb any higher from the weight of the string… The kite was high overhead, about 60-degrees up but the string actually hung lower than our hand as it drooped down so much…

But along comes a helicopter and we could see it headed straight for the kite… but it did not hit the kite, it flew directly between us and the kit. I imagine the weight of the string hung down far enough that the helicopter did not even cut the string…

After that, we never flew the kites so high…
