Will drone delivery depend more on 5G and UTM than better drones?

I’ve been thinking about what actually needs to happen before drone delivery, mapping, inspections, and other automated operations can scale.

Better drones obviously matter, but I wonder if the bigger bottleneck is connectivity and traffic management.

If drones are expected to fly beyond short manual flights, they need reliable command links, live telemetry, Remote ID, UTM integration, and some way to coordinate low-altitude airspace.

Do you think 5G and dedicated drone traffic management systems will become necessary for commercial drone operations, or is the industry still too early for that?

This short briefing explains the 5G and UTM angle pretty well: here
