I fly DJI drones (Mini 4 Pro and Mini 3), so I am familiar with good fling drones. I wanted an inexpensive, well featured, drone for my Grandson; so I bought a Holy Stone HS720R. But it's been nothing but trouble trying to fly that thing (junk drone). I have also had trouble with other Holy Stone drones, so I am done with Holy Stone.

Now I am considering the Atom 2 for him and don't want to make the same mistake I did with the HS720R. Some real world feedback would be great.

Does it have stable flight characteristics, and is it as easy to fly as my DJI drones?
How well does the Follow Me function work? Will it follow an 8 year old on a bike?
Are there any known issues with the Atom 2?

My grandson can easily fly my DJII drones, but not the Holy Stone HS720R. Do you think he will have a good flying experience with the Atom 2?

Thanks in advance....

I have one and I can't say anything bad. It's been a great drone for the money. Very stable, even in windy conditions. Go with the fly more combo.

I am relatively new to the hobby and I started out with a cheap Holystone which almost made me run away from the drone world. What a piece of junk. Fortunately I then picked up a Potensic Atom 2. I didn’t want to invest more until I figured out if I liked it. The Potensic is a great little drone IMHO. It will do everything you grandson should want reliably and at a very reasonable price. That being said, I will be looking at either a DJI Mini 4 or 5 pro next.

In my opinion, it boils down to this. First, I need a budget drone that has good and predictable flight characteristics. All the fancy flight and camare features don't mean a thing if the drone is not a well behaved flyer (like the HS720R junk). If the drone has very good flight characteristics, then we can begin to explore all it's flight and photography features. Most Atom 2 reviews are good but focus on features and photography. Ok fine, but I want to know how well the Atom 2 flies. I am skeptical of reviews because most are glowing and positive. I want the dirt, I want to know how well the Atom 2 flies.

So, any feedback about the Atom 2 flight characteristics?

I just got burned for $320 for an HS720R on eBay and I am a bit gun shy about budget drones.

Found an eBay refurbished Atom 2 for $272. Sounds like a great deal. But waiting untill I get more feedback about Atom 2 flight characteristics.

Thanks all.....

I fly mine quite a bit and I've never had a problem with it acting up or toilet bowling. It will sit there and hover forever. Very user friendly, just like DJI, if you get in trouble, let go of the sticks and it will stay right there. There is no obstacle avoidance. They say you can fly like 5 miles away, I would disagree with that. I would stay away from refurbished!! I know of two people that have had issues. I will say potensic does a nice job with customer service. I guess idk what else to say other than I would definitely purchase another one.

The Atom 2 is only my second drone, so I don't have the experience of some others. It flys much better than my SJRC drone and also much less prop noise. As I'm at the coast, winds are an issue and the Atom 2 handles the wind well. My friends fly Specta and DJI Mini 4's, and I feel like the Atom 2 quality (build and flying) is just as good. I would think it would be a great drone for your grandson. If you don't need all the features, maybe consider the Atom SE
