HS600 Auto Return Question

If I or the drone initiate a GPS auto-return, does it climb to the max altitude I set for it or does it fly back at its existing altitude?

It will not return to home at its existing altitude, nor will it return at the maximum "Flight altitude" that you've set in the HS Fly App on the Settings page "Parameter". It will climb (or descend) to the "Return altitude" that you have set on that page and fly at that altitude until it is over the Return to Home GPS location. From there it will descend once you long-press the RTH button.
