The California DMV last week halted autonomous vehicle testing in California indefinitely, citing a collision with a pedestrian in October 2023, and the State halted delivery testing using drones this week. Pushback for AVs was both, the result of a recent rollover as well as the pedestrian collision. During the current wildfires in the hills of Los Angeles, a RC drone collided with an aerial water tanker as it was fighting the fires, effectively grounding the aircraft. Were these measures a knee-jerk reaction? Will AVs and drones survive e-commerce development to transform last-mile delivery? Policymakers want to fact-find on community pushback through university research >>> Autonomous Vehicles and Drones Revolution or Repeal

E-commerce UAVs and autonomous ground vehicles are here to stay. The time frame is debatable but, eventually, I believe these vehicles will be common place. Tesla and several other companies are developing driverless taxis and several companies are currently working on pilot-less e-vtol aircraft for use as an air taxi. My guess is that within the next 10 years or less autonomous vehicles will be operating in most major urban areas.

I agree. The critical question to be considered is whether developers are controlling the narrative in a way that will assure public support for the technology once the barrier issues of accuracy in guidance and proximity are overcome. This technology, relative to e-commerce and transit, will be transformative as we know, but public and local legislation in their pushback efforts is mounting, given that it is not being tended to sufficiently by developers. Thanks, interesting stuff...

If you have not already, please access the research survey above; these stats will be reviewed by our local Reps through the university report.

Unfortunately, the Russian/Ukraine War has created substantial negative publicity concerning all types of unmanned remotely controlled or autonomous vehicles. This problem is compounded by a small segment of idiots who grossly violate FAA drone regulations and laws. The drone operator who damaged a Super Scooper plane that was fight the California wildfires is a good example. At Langley AFB a Chinese national was arrested operating a drone at an altitude of 1 mile in a strict no fly zone. This instance looks like legitimate espionage but most incursion are idiots with drones. Regardless, all these events paint a rather negative light on drones in general. Particularly from the perspective of the non drone owning average citizen. So, I completely agree with you.
