Introduce Yourself!

Hi my name is Mike and live in Lincoln UK. Firstly Thank you for allowing me to join your community, it looks quite informative. I suppose I will be classed as a senior drone user but only in age not experience. I have just reached my 73rd birthday and have got very little experience with drones. In fact this is my first drone (HG720G). Yes it is only a "beginners" drone but not for me. In fact getting the free battery from Holy Stone, to me, was a major undertaking. Still I digress, and have my very first question for you. "What other monitor can be used instead of a mobile phone for use in flights"?

Hi,
I'm looking at drones and am a beginner. The DJI Mini 2 is said to be a good one to start on. But, $500 is kind of steep for someone (me) who may not be able to master it. My previous and only experience is with a mini drone that cost about $30. All I could do with that was make it take off, flip, crash. The problem was that it wouldn't go slow enough to learn the controls. Zip or nothing!
So - I would like something less expensive but of a high enough quality that I will at least have a chance at learning to fly it. Thanks for your help.

It’s going to be difficult to get a good drone for under $500

Hi viper, welcome from England. I am in the same situation, as a new flyer, regulations are quite daunting as are the choice of drones. I to first bought a drone for £25 and the only true flight I got it to do was to fly behind my neighbours chimney, much to his amusement at me at 73 years old, knocking on his door asking if I could retrieve it. I will admit to blaming my grandson. Those cheap drones are very difficult to fly and need a lot of practice. I looked into many drones to purchase and settled for a Holy Stone hs720g at a cost of £250. I was amazed at the difference in control ability. Now there will be many out there disagree with my choice of hs720g but many of these comments about various drones are born out of the experience they have had with their drone. For a first controllable drone I have found the hs720g is fine for me. Hope this is of some help from the UK. Mike.

Hi, G. I'm beginning to realize that the higher the reviews the higher the price. Eventually, I'll talk myself into something and will let you know how it goes.

Hi Mikey. We have a common history when it comes to our drone history. I spent more time searching for propellers and charging the unit than I did flying. Also hit 73 on October 26 but my brain still needs toys. The HS720 line looks enticing due to pricing. Your post has encouraged me because of the controlability so that I can practice indoors. Wisconsin winters can be quite discouraging to outdoor activities.

I Know and many thanks for doing so. I'm confused with Holy Stone not offering their own products but redirecting to Amazon who dont appear to stock these items.

New to the forum. Years ago I build model planes and flew them. Had one float plane that dud not end well.
Then took the leap into Sport pilot and flew PPC, Weight shift trikes, and finally a fixed wing sport plane.
Recently bought a JJRC Heron and just ordered a controller to use with Zepher software.
I’ll be watching the post for newbie drone pilots.
