If you're getting into FPV you know it can be challenging to start flying freestyle and have it look smooth and interesting. Just flying around a field (that's me) is one thing, but actually doing real moves is another.

I found a video that has helped me learn the mechanics of various moves that I can practice to build my flying skills. It has helped to take a step-by-step approach.

The video details the following moves:
FPV Practice Moves

  • Gaps – start by shooting large gaps and work smaller
  • Flips and rolls – stopping at horizon level and not overshooting
  • Segmented flips and rolls – stop half way and at different positions and at varying speeds
  • Knife edge gaps – start with big gaps. Drop throttle and approach from opposite end
  • Inverted float – hang upside down
  • Inverted look back
  • Split “S” – roll then flip and go under the object
  • Power loop – a slight pitch back with some throttle half way through
  • Yaw spin – moving forward add yaw with enough roll to keep horizon level. Drop some throttle to keep forward momentum.
  • Orbit – keep an object centered and move around it.
If you think this structure approach would help you sharpen your skills I'd recommend watching the video and then practice each skill until you can do it with confidence and repeatedly. Then go on to the next. You can cut & paste the text above in BLUE and print to take to the field.

Happy flying
