I have seen how a drone acts in flight, but the sim that I was using was acting as if the drone behaved more like a fixed wing aircraft. That was what was confusing me.

Well I just spent an hour flying in manual. That seems to be the answer as with most things, is practice, practice, practice! I didn't crash, but it was not what I would call graceful flying! LOL Small stick movements until I get better.

So drones fly more like helicopters than fixed wing planes? Pitch does not regulate altitude. Nose down pitch gives you forward speed, but does not necessarily affect altitude.

I recently bought a DJI FPV drone and have been working to learn to fly it. I have Normal and Sport mode figured out to the point where I can fly reasonably well. However, Manual mode is acting differently than I expected. See this thread. Manual mode troubles.
